Reid Park Zoo

Does it sound weird to anyone else that Tucson would have a zoo? We decided to check it out last Friday and were pleasantly surprised. It's fairly small, but it has the basics - lions, tigers, bears (oh, my!) and the essential giraffes and elephants. Peacocks ran amok around the park, we ate Dippin' Dots (who doesn't like ice cream in tiny round balls?), the tiger wouldn't come out to play because it was too hot, and the polar bear swam around and around for us. Gavin managed to throw his shoe into the bank of landscape that separates the elephants from the visitors, so we had to hail a docent - who then hailed a zookeeper - to climb over the fence and get the shoe. Could we have climbed over ourselves to get it? Yes. Did we follow the rules and set a good example for the other children? Yes. Did we put Gavin's shoes back on? No.

These two are for Courtnee. They weren't nearly as neighborly as the family at the Denver Zoo, I must say.

This one's a rare species - endangered and everything. Thank goodness.
